Navigating Bridges

Navigating Bridges, Opening Times

Bridge Heights, Openings and Tide Information

There are a number of bridges to navigate on the Norfolk Broads which can cause a bit of a challenge to all boats not to mention a headache if you get it wrong!

Sailing yachts must of course lower the masts and some motor boats need to drop their canopies and windscreens.

The rail bridges at Somerleyton, Reedham and Trowse have swing mechanisms, staffed and opened by Network Rail as required by individual vessels. The bridges at Breydon Water, Novi Sad, St Julian's and Carrow Road bridge in Norwich all operate by lifting mechanisms.

Click on the following link to find out clearances but even so approach all bridges with a great deal of caution and keep a keen eye out for the bridge gauge boards that indicate the clearance height available
