Somerleyton

Somerleyton

Somerleyton is seven miles southwest of Great Yarmouth, close to the River Waveney which runs along the edge of Somerleyton giving access to the Broads and Broadland i  The village lies just over the Norfolk/Suffolk border on the edge of The Broads National Park. The are includes the parishes of Somerleyton, Ashby and Herringfleet.  Somerleyton is a wonderful example of a model village (estate village) and is famous not only for Somerleyton Hall which is open to the public, but also for being the home of Christopher Cockerell, the inventor of the Hovercraft. Unveiled in 2010 the Hovercraft Column commemorates his invention.
